The Symposium
The Symposium was commissioned by Song, Stage & Screen II and is now available for touring. Adapted by Duska Radosavljevic and George Rodosthenous.
"Love is just the name we give to the desire for and pursuit of wholeness" Plato, Symposium
Four sporty lads on a stag night out - a night of drunken revels, secret revelations and midnight ablutions. Can one dance the concept of 'love'? Can one articulate in movement what it means to be 'in lust'? And is it possible to reconcile the difference and move on? This dance theatre piece with live songs and music is inspired by the timeless ideas of love from Plato's Symposium, the story of Salome and Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.
"I am athirst for thy beauty. I am hungry for thy body; and neither wine nor apples can appease my desire" Oscar Wilde, Salome
The piece is a result of a research project focusing on refining musical and theatrical improvisational techniques into performance.
